Another Track,

This is the first hip hop entry in my new hobby of writing on songs that stand out to me in albums. Big K.R.I.T. where to start about this guy, I have to say that in a world where most southern rap recently has been equivalent to the most annoying shit on the planet, this guy REALLY was a fresh of breath air. He is BLATANTLY (so blatant that sometimes it hurts) influenced by the southern artists who put out CLASSIC hip hop albums, Outkast and Scarface for example. Allot of his beats sound like he is the lost member of the legendary production crew Organized Noise, that group that…you know….HAD A BIG HAND IN PRODUCING THE 4 OUTKAST ALBUMS THAT EVERYONE LOVES. Anyway, dude came onto the rap scene in around 2010(or at least that when the first mixtape I’ve heard from him, KRIT was here) and he pretty much(minus his debut album which, although good at times was kinda dissapointing) has been putting out heat since. This mixtape Return Of 4Eva is no exception and KRIT pretty much shows us that not all southern rappers(or rappers in general) are lyrically retarded in the post 2000 rap era. This song “Time Machine” is my favorite song from this mixtape and is one of my favorite Big KRIT songs, with all of his best features on display.

If there is anything that will draw people to(or in some cases away) from his music its NOSTALGIA and figures this song is literally about that. Its about getting into your car and feeling like you are being transported to the past. In the song KRIT remineces on his youth, artists that were popular during that time, growing up, school, situations with woman and other things. Topics that we have seen many times in rap music( and any music really ) but KRIT manages to make them interesting with his word play and flow(which I have to say is one of the most interesting elements about his MCing, he really knows how to “ride the beat”). The beat, produced by him(yep he produces all of his own shit), is fantastic, dominated by what sounds like a “warped” guitar lick during the chorus and then some nice bass playing in the backround during the verses which are accompained by more guitar and other elements which made this one of my favorite beats of 2011. It sounds EXTREMELY southern. Big Boi should’ve done shit like this on his recent album. Moving on

What happens after Big KRITS verses is also pretty impressive….Chamillionare. Yes. The “Riding Dirty” guy. Where has he been? Who cares, because he comes out of nowhere and pretty much murders this song, his flow and delivery, which changes speed at times, is nice switch up from the slower flow of Big KRIT, with lines like:

Every woman on her knees that’s looking up, is not religious”

Dude pretty much fits in perfectly with the beat and the content of the verses before his, which makes you wonder if they will ever make a track together again

And thats all I have to say about that, download this FREE mixtape. now. Big KRIT releasing this shit for free is actually crazy, like seriously this was better than most rap albums released in 2011 and it was free. So no excuses people
